The ongoing discussion about the ban on the Burka in Britain and France, the prohibition of the construction of Minarets in Switzerland and finally, Europe’s favourite, a possible accession of Turkey to the European Union bring up voices which consider an Islamic influenced culture as not compatible with a “Christian Occident”. Doubtable opinions like these stir fears which oppose cultural understanding.
